With man, came greed. With greed came destruction. With destruction came darkness.
A thousand years ago, man used to run this world. They did everything within their power to create the perfect world. Even if it meant destroying the existing one. The humans kept polluting our world with their creations. They had no idea what they were doing was only making it worse, not better; but I do not believe they even cared either way. They kept wanting to create new things to help make their lives easier; but their greed was slowly destroying their world, our world. A large Industrial company was experimenting on a new device to extend the human life span when their technology took a turn for the worse. Their greed finally caught up with them and there was no turning back. Their final experiment turned on them, destroying everything in its path. Some say it was a creature so vile that the devil himself would not touch it. Others say the humans accidentally, yea right, released a vile dark substance that had no issues spreading; but I knew all too well what it was.
The darkness was quick, destroying the lab and everything within it. Soon it was spreading across the lands, the trees, the mountains, the water source was not safe from its path. It distorted and changed everything it touched, nothing was the same after that. There were very few objects and creatures that escaped the touch of the darkness. Those who were lucky enough to survive were never the same. Man was gone, destroyed by their greed, destroyed by their own creation. They were no longer human, consumed by the darkness. They were disfigured, destroying anything human about them. They were the weaker of the species and suffered the most damage. Serves them right for playing God.
Creatures beyond recognition poured from the darkness, causing everything in their path to hide. Those who were untouched, but too slow to hide, were quickly devoured. Our world had turned into a game of survival. We were soon thrown into a theory, Darwin's Theory of 'Survival of the Fittest.' Where only the strongest and smartest survived. When the darkness finally settled, which took decades to spread across our world, we were still unable to be at ease. The air was almost like poison and very few untouched knew how to survive it. As the years passed, there were very few untouched left; and those who did survive had learned to adapt to the darkness and hid from the corrupted creatures of darkness. Most of them adapted to life underground as it was the safest and less touched from the darkness.
It took a thousand years for the world to slowly become habitable again. The trees were slowly growing back to their full height. The grassy plains were slowly sprouting new life across the world. The lakes, rivers, and oceans were slowly becoming less polluted as evolved life forms began to cleanse and purify the watery substances. The air was slowly becoming less poisonous with each passing year. Many untouched creatures began to emerge from the underground, having to evolve as the years passed by. They were creatures that were no longer nameable, evolving to adapt to the new world. They were the last remaining of those who were untouched by the darkness. When they emerged, they soon learned that they were still not alone, fighting for survival all over again.
They wanted their world back and would do anything to get it back. The bravest, and perhaps most stupid, started a war against the darkness and its children. Many untouched were murdered, ripped to pieces by the corrupted. When they thought all hope was lost, an odd and yet twisted miracle came to life. Rumors of a band of creatures spread across the world. They were creatures none had ever seen and brought fear into every creature that ever walked the world, including the corrupted. Though, the untouched had everything to fear with these new creatures, but so did the corrupted beasts. They were known as the Overlords, creatures that were identical to the four horsemen. They were the very definition of fear and death. None ever dared to seek them, but the untouched dared to hope for life.
